A small house making a small number of things, properly.
Since 2019
We began with one coat.
Modique started in a borrowed corner of a Hackney workroom, with one pattern, one bolt of Italian wool and an argument that lasted three weeks about how deep a pocket should be.
Six years later there are three of us on design, four in the studio, and six partner workshops across Portugal, Italy, Turkey and India. The catalogue is deliberately small — around two dozen pieces at any time — because we would rather revise one good trouser for four seasons than launch forty new ones a year.
The pocket, for the record, is 21 centimetres deep. It fits a paperback.
How we work
Fewer things, revised often.
Every piece we make has to answer a question somebody actually asked. If it does not replace something already in your wardrobe, or fill a gap you keep bumping into, we do not make it.
- Cloth rests for a week after it arrives, before anyone cuts it.
- Runs are capped — most colourways are under two hundred units.
- Patterns are revised between runs rather than retired.
- We hold spare buttons, thread and cloth for every piece for five years.

Our margin on a garment sits between 2.2 and 2.6 times the landed cost, roughly half the industry norm. We publish this not as a virtue but as a fact you can check against the price on any product page.
